HEATHER BOND VARGAS RECEIVES INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY CERTIFICATION
Heather Bond Vargas, a partner at Cobb Cole, recently received her board certification from the Florida Bar Association in the area of intellectual property law.
Only 105 attorneys in 29 cities are certified by the Florida Bar in intellectual property law. Ms. Vargas is the only attorney to have earned the intellectual property law certification in the Fifth and Seventh Judicial Circuits, an area consisting of Volusia, Flagler, Putnam, Marion, St. Johns, Citrus, Hernando, Lake, and Sumter counties.
"I find the practice of trademark and copyright law fascinating and challenging," Ms. Vargas said. "I am grateful for this opportunity to prove my credentials and establish myself as a true intellectual property specialist."
To achieve board certification from the Florida Bar, a lawyer must have practiced law for a minimum of 5 years and pass the certification exam in the selected specialty. The certification application must also contain information showing that a large portion of the attorney's practice is in the certified field and peer recommendations demonstrating the character, competence, ethics, and professionalism of the lawyer.
"The firm is very proud of Heather," John Ferguson, a partner at Cobb Cole, said. "The dedication and intelligence it requires to earn the certification truly exemplifies the qualities that make Heather an outstanding person and attorney."
Ms. Vargas is a native of Daytona Beach and has been practicing law at the firm of Cobb Cole since 2000. She is admitted to practice law in Florida, California, and Washington. Her intellectual property practice focuses on the area of trademarks, copyrights, and computer and internet law.
