A native of Daytona Beach, Mr. Kaney graduated from Seabreeze Senior High School in 1987, Stetson University in 1991 with a degree in Political Science and from the Florida State University College of Law, with honors, in 1994. During law school, Mr. Kaney was president of the Environmental Law Society.

Admitted to the Florida Bar in 1994, Mr. Kaney practices media law, probate and trust litigation and general civil litigation. He is a past president of the Volusia County Young Lawyers Association (now merged with the Volusia County Bar Association), past chair of the Florida Bar's annual Media-Law Conference and past chair of the Florida Bar's Media and Communications Law Committee. Mr. Kaney holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
