Attorney Michael Sznapstajler Receives AV Preeminent Rating

Cobb Cole Attorney Michael Sznapstajler received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which reflects a combination of achieving a very high General Ethic Standards rating and Legal Ability rating. The General Ethical Standards rating denotes adherence to professional standards of conduct and ethics, reliability, diligence and other criteria relevant to the discharge of professional responsibilities. The Legal Ability rating is based on performance of legal knowledge, analytical capabilities, judgment, communication ability, and legal experience. Cobb Cole Attorney Katherine Hurst Miller To Receive Statewide Leaders in the Law Award

The Florida Association for Women Lawyers ("FAWL") is honoring Katherine Hurst Miller with one of its Leaders in the Law Awards at its June meeting at the 2012 Annual Florida Bar Convention. The award recognizes attorneys who have made significant impact in their communities through their legal service or volunteer activities, and who serve as positive role models for FAWL members. Ms. Miller was nominated for the award by the Volusia Flagler Association for Women Lawyers. Ms. Miller will become one of only six local attorneys and judges who have received this award.

Cobb Cole Attorney Melissa B. Murphy Completed Term as the 2011-2012 President of the Volusia Flagler Association for Women Lawyers

Cobb Cole Attorney Melissa B. Murphy completed her term as the 2011-2012 President of the Volusia Flagler Association for Women Lawyers (VFAWL). The VFAWL Board of Directors presented Ms. Murphy with a plaque and flowers for her dedication and service to the association at VFAWL's final luncheon of the year on June 14, 2012. Under Ms. Murphy's watch, VFAWL was able to grow its membership, expand its program and opportunities to its members, and was awarded the small chapter of the year award for membership by the Florida Association for Women Lawyers.

Cobb Cole Partner Scott W. Cichon Elected as Volusia Civil Trial Attorneys Association President

The Volusia Civil Trial Attorneys Association elected Cobb Cole litigation partner Scott W. Cichon as its new president to replace outgoing president Steve Sands. Other attorneys elected to office are William Chanfrau, Jr, vice president, Sandy Upchurch, secretary, Joan Briggs, treasurer, and MaryEllen Osterndorf, director. The Volusia Civil Trial Attorneys Association is a group of experienced trial attorneys organized to discuss and educate their members on issues important to civil law practice, as well as to support local charitable causes.

Cobb Cole Supports the Domestic Abuse Council

June's Casual for a Cause is the Domestic Abuse Council, Inc. The purpose of the Domestic Abuse Council, Inc. is to provide emergency shelter, victim advocacy, transitional housing, support/education groups for victims, information and referral services, case management, residential and community programs for child witnesses of domestic violence, family intervention programs for the abusive partner, legal advocacy, community education and professional training. Casual for a Cause started several years back when the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer was raising funds. If you donated to the cause, you got to dress in denim the last Friday of the month. It proved to be such a hit that a committee of staff and attorneys was formed to pick local charities who did not receive federal funding and served a cross-section of the community.

Heather Bond Vargas has been recognized as a 2012 Florida Super Lawyers' Rising Stars. These are the state's top up-and-coming attorneys who are forty years old or younger, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less. Florida Super Lawyers recognizes attorneys for attaining a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Heather Bond Vargas, a shareholder in Cobb Cole's Business Law Section, is board certified in the area of Intellectual Property by The Florida Bar and holds an AV rating, the highest rating obtainable by an attorney from Martindale-Hubbell legal directory.

Kelly Parsons Kwiatek has been recognized as a 2012 Florida Super Lawyers' Rising Star

Kelly Parsons Kwiatek has been recognized as a 2012 Florida Super Lawyers' Rising Star. These are the state's top up-and-coming attorneys who are forty years old or younger, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less. Florida Super Lawyers recognizes attorneys for attaining a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. On June 8, 2012, Cobb Cole client, International Speedway Corporation, was in The Daytona Beach News-Journal article "Speedway Corp. takes steps to revive former Daytona Live! project." Cobb Cole represents ISC in rezoning and future land use map amendment with the City of Daytona Beach to entitle the development of this project.

Cobb Cole Attorney Melissa Murphy was recently recognized in the Florida Bar News for her volunteer work as President of the Volusia Flagler Association For Women Lawyers. On May 12, 2012, VFAWL, in conjunction with the Teen Court Program of Volusia County, volunteered to landscape the area surrounding the Foxman Justice Center sign at the Foxman Justice Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. VFAWL donated the landscaping and its members to install the landscaping. VFAWL also coordinated with Teen Court so that the teens could assist in the landscaping project to earn their required community service hours.
