Be reasonable to help your divorce case in court

You were at home washing dishes when your husband opened the front door, walked over to the room and sat down at the kitchen table. You could tell something was wrong, but you weren't sure what was going on.

After a long conversation, you found out that your husband had cheated on you and was remorseful about his affair. While you appreciated his honesty, you didn't feel that you could ever trust him again. In your mind, the only solution was divorce.

When you decided that a divorce was the right option for you, his attitude changed completely. Now, he is doing everything he can to make the divorce difficult. What can you do?

Try to be reasonable

At this point, one of the best things that you can do is to remain reasonable. If you do have to go to court in the future, showing that you were reasonable in the past and are willing to negotiate now is a great way to make a good impression on a judge.

In fact, a judge who believes that your spouse is attempting to make a divorce difficult by being unfair or unwilling to negotiate could develop a distaste for their attitude. In a divorce case, you always want the judge to look upon you kindly so that you can try to get the most out of your marital assets and to seek the resolution that would work best for you.

Our site has more on how you can handle a complex and conflicted divorce, so you can move forward with your case.
